It’s that time of year when we all start making new year’s resolutions, and— let’s be honest— they’re usually not very exciting. Eat better, get more exercise, quit a bad habit… sure, all of these are great ideas. But this year, how about adding a bit of fun to your “to-do” list? 

Here in Park City, there are always plenty of new things to try and new places to explore. So once you’ve slipped out of skis or your snowboard, why not try something completely different in 2023? Here are three of our favorite off-the-beaten-path winter adventures in Park City, plus a bonus look at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival. 

Dog Sledding

Tubing

Looking for an activity that’s easy, laid-back, and just plain fun? Then you’ll want to take the whole family on a tubing trip. Like traditional hillside sledding except on a more comfortable, inflated inner tube, most Park City tubing sites even have lifts to take you back up the hillside— so you get all the fun with minimal effort. Sounds good to us!

This year, the world-famous Sundance Film Festival will be held in Park City from January 19 to January 29. For ten days, our town is taken over by some of the world’s most gifted storytellers, for a showcase of amazing motion pictures and documentaries. This is the first time the festival is happening in person since 2019, so you don’t want to miss the excitement!

As the temperatures start to drop here in Park City, our attention starts to naturally turn from warm-weather activities to what we’re famous for— our iconic winter adventures. October: Howl-O-Ween on Historic Main Street

First up is a popular Halloween event on Main Street in Park City that was named one of the top Halloween-themed celebrations in the country!

On October 31, both humans and four-legged family members are invited to stroll Main Street and strut their stuff and enjoy safe trick-or-treating along with spooky decorations and libations. True fun for the whole family!

November: Drop-In Curling at the Park City Ice Arena

Are you one of those people (like us) who watches curling at the Olympics every four years and thinks, “Hey, that kinda looks like fun!” Well, here’s your chance to learn the ins and outs of this ice-cold sport.

On November 26, there’s a group curling lesson being hosted by the Park City Ice Arena, and your tickets include lane rental (for 2-10 people), all curling equipment, and in-depth instruction. Warm, loose-fitting clothing and rubber-soled shoes are recommended.

December: Park City Holiday Spectacular and Sing-A-Long

No trip to Park City would be complete without seeing a show at the gorgeous Egyptian Theater on historic Main Street. And from December 15 to 18, the theater will play host to a holiday-themed sing-a-long spectacular that will have the whole family enchanted.

Featuring songs, dances, and skits performed by a very talented local cast, this event is super-popular and oh-so-much fun. All shows include a visit by Santa Claus himself!
