Congratulations! You’ve made it to Park City. You’re at 7,000+ feet, the air is crisp, the mountains are majestic, and… wait a minute. Why does your head feel like it’s being squeezed like a lemon, and why is your skin suddenly the texture of a premium saltine cracker?

Welcome to high-altitude living. While the views up here are world-class, the atmosphere is a little less “spa day” and a little more “industrial dehydrator.” If you aren’t prepared, the elevation will let you know.
But don’t worry—at Moose Management, we want you spending your time on the slopes or Main Street, not curled up in a ball wondering why a simple set of stairs in your Park City vacation rental home suddenly feels like a marathon.
Here is your survival guide to staying hydrated, energized, and decidedly un-cracker-like.
1. The “Double Down” Water Rule
At sea level, your body is a happy, hydrated sponge. At 7,000 feet, you are essentially a succulent in a drought. The air up here is incredibly dry, and your lungs have to work harder, meaning you lose moisture just by breathing.
The fix? Whatever non-alcoholic drink you usually drink, double it. If you think you’ve had enough water, have one more glass. Pro-tip: Start “pre-gaming” your H2O hydration 24 hours before you even land in Utah. Your brain (and your skin) will thank you.
2. The High-Altitude “Cheat Code”: IV Therapy
Sometimes, water alone can’t keep up with the pace of a Park City vacation. If you wake up feeling a bit “dusty” or the altitude headache is winning, it’s time to call in the professionals.

Park City is home to some incredible mobile and boutique IV clinics like Prime IV Hydration & Wellness. They can hook you up with an altitude-specific cocktail of electrolytes, amino acids, and vitamins that goes straight into your system.
It’s the ultimate reset button for your whole body.
3. Don’t Let the Sun Bully You
You might feel the chill, but don’t let the snow fool you—the sun is much closer up here. For every 1,000 feet of elevation gain, UV radiation increases by about 10%. By the time you’re at the top of a chairlift, you’re basically under a magnifying glass.

We highly recommend SPF 50 or more. Apply it early, apply it often, and don’t forget your ears and the underside of your nose (the snow reflects sunlight upward!). Also, invest in some high-quality lip balm with SPF. “Mountain lips” are real, and they aren’t cute.
A heavy skin moisturizer is a must for everyone in your family. Swap your light lotion for something thick. You want to seal that moisture in like you’re prepping for a polar expedition.
4. Respect the “One-Drink” Reality
We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but one cocktail at 7,000 feet hits like three at sea level! Yikes. The altitude intensifies the effects of alcohol while simultaneously dehydrating you further.
Our no-fail Moose strategy? We use the 1:1 ratio. One glass of water for every “adult beverage.” You’ll still have a blast at Après-ski, and you won’t feel like a crumbled cracker the next morning.
5. Fuel Up for the Climb
Besides the dehydration, your body is also burning more calories just existing at this height. So, now is not the time for a restrictive diet. Lean into those complex carbs and potassium-rich foods (baked potatoes and bananas are your new best friends!) They’ll help your muscles cope with the lower oxygen levels.

In conclusion, Patrick C. Moose wants to remind you to stay hydrated, stay greasy (with sunscreen), and enjoy our thin air and (literally) breathtaking views. You’re officially a mountain pro now!
