Our diverse trail system offers something for everyone, from leisurely family strolls to exhilarating summit climbs. Here’s your Moose Management guide to hitting the trails this summer:
Easy Family Strolls (Great for All Ages & Paws!)
Perfect for families with young children, those new to hiking, or anyone looking for a relaxed outdoor experience. These trails are generally well-maintained with minimal elevation gain.
- Historic Rail Trail: This beloved 28-mile crushed gravel path follows an old railway line, offering a mostly flat and wide surface ideal for walking, jogging, or biking. It’s incredibly dog-friendly and provides scenic views of the valley. Access points are plentiful throughout Park City and beyond.
- McLeod Creek Trail: A charming, paved pathway winding through meadows and alongside a creek, this trail is perfect for a peaceful walk. It’s easily accessible from various points and is fantastic for spotting local wildlife. It’s also dog-friendly.
- Rob’s Trail (Lower Section): While Rob’s Trail can be quite challenging, the lower sections near the base of the mountains offer a gentle introduction to Park City’s trail system, with lovely views and shaded areas.
Moderate Loops (A Rewarding Challenge)
Ready to elevate your heart rate a bit and enjoy more expansive views? These trails offer moderate climbs and longer distances, perfect for a few hours of enjoyable exercise.
- Armstrong Trail (from Silver Star): Starting near the Silver Star lift, Armstrong offers a beautiful, winding ascent through aspen groves and pines. It’s about 3 miles one way (6 miles out and back) with a steady climb. This trail is dog-friendly and connects to other trails for longer loops. The views back towards town are fantastic.
- Mid-Mountain Trail (Sections): This iconic trail stretches for nearly 20 miles across the mountains, but you can tackle shorter, manageable sections. Consider starting from Silver Star and heading towards Deer Valley for rolling terrain and spectacular wildflower displays in mid-summer. Expect some rocky sections and varied elevation.
- Jenni’s Trail (from Park City Mountain Base): A popular ascent from the Park City Mountain Village, Jenni’s Trail offers a steady climb through forested areas, opening up to nice views. It’s a great option for a moderate workout before enjoying the resort village amenities. This trail is also dog-friendly.
Challenging Summit Climbs (For the Adventurous)
For experienced hikers seeking a true test of endurance and unparalleled panoramic vistas. These trails feature significant elevation gain and often rocky, exposed sections.
- Bloods Lake Trail (from Guardsman Pass): This popular 2.8-mile out-and-back trail (round trip from the first trailhead, though many extend it to Lackawaxen) offers a steady climb to a stunning alpine lake. While moderate for some, the elevation gain at altitude can make it challenging. The payoff is the incredibly picturesque lake, perfect for a refreshing dip! Note: This trail can be very popular, especially on weekends. It is dog-friendly.
- Bald Mountain Trail (Deer Valley Resort): Take the scenic gondola ride up to mid-mountain (check operating hours and fees), and then hike the challenging ascent to the summit of Bald Mountain. The views from the top are truly 360-degree and awe-inspiring, encompassing the surrounding Wasatch Range. Be prepared for exposure at the summit.
- Scott’s Pass Trail: Accessing some of Park City’s highest terrain, this trail offers serious elevation gain and rugged beauty. It’s a challenging climb but rewards hikers with incredible solitude and sweeping views of distant peaks and valleys.
