COVID-19 Updates

We’re in This with You –And Here’s What We’re Doing to Help!

First off, we want to express our sheer gratitude & appreciation for our guests. If the quarantine has taught us anything, it is to reflect on the things we’re grateful for. We know you have options and choosing to book with Moose Management Vacation Rentals means a lot to us!

In the current environment, it is important for all of us to travel smarter and more consciously. That is why we want to inform you of the steps we are taking to ensure your health and safety in your travels.

We remain fully open for business and are prioritizing the safety of our guests, owners, staff and vendors. We continue to monitor the COVID-19 status and work with our local officials to ensure we are doing all in our power to maintain a safe and healthy environment.

Our properties are sanitized, cleaned, and disinfected prior to guest check-in. Our housekeeping checklists meet CDC cleaning standards.

We are a keyless check-in company; the entire booking takes place online and you are given a garage and/or a door code to enter the property directly.

A Most Unusual Spring

We’re living in unprecedented times. No one alive today has seen days like these. In oft-repeated words, this virus has been “the great equalizer” in that we are all vulnerable. It doesn’t care if we’re young, old, rich, poor, black, white, there is no discrimination. From that perspective, we are now one global family banding together to get through this terrible ordeal.

Of course, there has been division, and finger-pointing, perhaps borne of fear, perhaps other emotions. This has been a terribly trying time for all of us. Unfortunately, it may continue that way for some time.

But, and this is a great, big but, the human spirit has not been broken. We hear stories of heroism and generosity daily. A newspaper delivery man who has started grocery shopping for his elderly neighbors – for free. The woman who brought her therapy dog to their regular nursing home appointment and visited through the windows with the residents. The celebrities who are livestreaming free entertainment. The thousands of vacation home & RV owners who have offered up their properties to our selfless first-responders.

Then, of course, there are the everyday unsung heroes. Neighbors that check on each other. Friends and family who share what they have, whether it’s a meal, a face mask or a roll of toilet paper. As always, times of crisis seem to bring out the best in humanity. And for that, we are all so grateful.

If there’s an additional silver lining to this worldwide crisis, perhaps it’s the signs that the Earth has started to heal itself since we’ve all been in lockdown. Fish are returning to the canals in Venice. The air above Los Angeles has cleared. The Himalayan mountains are visible from India.

Eventually, this hardship shall pass. The world may look different when it’s over. But it will end. Let’s hope that when it does, we’ll all retain the lessons of friendship, family, compassion, generosity and love that we’ve collectively learned.

And then we’ll go out to dinner again. We’ll go to a movie or go get a drink. We’ll hug our loved ones. Maybe we’ll shake our friends hands. We’ll shop at fully stocked grocery stores and supermarkets.

Best of all, we’ll be able to enjoy vacation again. One day, hopefully soon, all the state and country borders will open and we’ll start making plans again. We’ll drool over the beautiful vacation homes and condos on websites. Make our reservations. We’ll get back in our cars and we’ll book our airplane seats.

And we’ll arrive at our favorite destinations. We’ll breathe in the crisp mountain air. Our eyes will sparkle with the sight of something new. We’ll greet our favorite vacation rental managers and pick up the keys to a new adventure.

At Moose Management Vacation Rentals, believe us when we tell you we’ve missed our guests. We’ve missed answering your questions and recommending our favorite restaurants and activities. After all, we CHOSE the hospitality industry! We want you all to follow your local instructions and keep yourself and all your loved ones safe and healthy. And as soon as we’re all able, we can’t wait to see you again!

Until then, friends, Park City and Moose Management Vacation Rentals await your return.

Sundance Film Festival 2020

Though the cheer of the holiday season may be over, there’s still plenty of glitz and glamour ahead as the iconic Sundance Film Festival heads to Park City from January 23 through February 2, 2020.

What is the Sundance Film Festival?

Founded by acclaimed actor Robert Redford, the Sundance Film Festival is a multi-day celebration of independent cinema. It showcases new work from independent filmmakers from the US and internationally and hosts various daily discussions, workshops and live music events. Hundreds of films have found their footing at Sundance and went on to enjoy critical acclaim and widespread recognition. As the largest festival of its kind in the US, Sundance attracts more than 125,000 people annually and is open to the public.

If you’d like to attend for the sheer star power, you’ll be in good company. Though the list of A-list stars who attended in 2019 is long and varied, a few include Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Viola Davis, Zac Efron and of course, Robert Redford.

History

Interestingly, the Sundance Film Festival began simply. In the early 1960s, Robert Redford was taking a cross-country motorcycle trip when discovered the remote and rugged beauty of Provo Canyon and Mt. Timpanogos. By the late 1960s, he had purchased 5,000 acres and named it after his seminal role in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Later that year, he opened the Sundance Mountain Resort.

In the early 1980s, the Sundance Institute was launched, as a means of giving a voice to the unheard stories of independent filmmakers.

The first Sundance Film Festival was held in 1985. In the 35 years since it has offered a platform from which the careers of leading filmmakers have been launched. Some of these now-household names include Steven Soderberg, Quentin Tarantino and the Coen Brothers.

The Movies of Sundance

You may be surprised to know that, through the decades, some of the most celebrated films in terms of box office appeal and Academy Awards nominations and wins got their start at the Sundance Film Festival.

Films such as “Napoleon Dynamite”, “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, “Little Miss Sunshine”, “The Usual Suspects” and “Reservoir Dogs” all got their start at Sundance.

So what’s on tap for this year? Plenty! Click to see the festival program guide or if you’d like to know what movie is playing where, visit the Sundance schedule.

Tips and Tricks

To survive Sundance 2020, please follow these simple tips:

Don’t forget that Park City is COLD. Daytime highs average between 12 and 33 degrees. Remember, layers are your friend, always have extra socks and gloves and most of all, wear appropriate shoes.

Do HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE. Park City is at an elevation of 7,000’. It’s very dry and you’re likely not used to that altitude.

Speaking of altitude, don’t drink alcohol and be prepared to take it easy for the first 24 hours. Allow your body to adjust so you don’t develop altitude sickness. Oh, and did we mention HYDRATE? Drink another glass of water.

Plan your schedule in advance, without being too rigid and don’t forget to factor in commuting time.

Make sure you have healthy snacks on you at all times. And water.

There is no “right” way to do Sundance. Don’t feel compelled to follow the crowd. Find the films and programs that speak to you and participate in those.

Most of all, enjoy the excitement and anticipation in the air. You may well be the first to discover the next great film and/or filmmaker of our time.  How’s that for bragging rights??
